The fool and his blog
Over an extended period of apparently eventless disconnect, this must be my fifth attempt at starting a blog.
More than a decade ago, during the Cambrian exblogsion, I cringe-posted on LiveJournal for no less than eight times on the sole topic of evading any discernible topic, argument, character, voice, anything that might be called "content," like a self-absorbed poet of the sad and talentless vanguard.
Later I made my first static Hakyll website called "Functional Transfixity" where I published exactly one post on existential quantification and module reloading in Haskell. Somehow I ended up talking about phantom cats and, although I cannot find it now, I swear there was an early draft where these cats were running around the equatorial ridge of Iapetus, the Saturnian moon, while strictly following the Juche ideology.
Finally, when cohost ascended, like eons ago, I decided that my posts were too embarrassing and not worth persisting into The Great Internet Archive so I made sure my account was private on ascension day. But I continued to follow the interesting people I'd parasocially met there and, bar those exhibiting a shameful display by joining Bluesky (I pronounce this word as "brosky"), most seemed to coalesce around the ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ Bear platform. Naturally, I pursued and made a Bear blog, pure and postless.
Looking back, it appears I completed my first blogeois revolutionary cycle. Times have changed, the world is on fire and quickly descending into order, and there's this strange thing I hear people talking about and be surprised by, called "death." So I decided to start afresh, but good and serial. Stay on topic, think about scope and respecting people's time, cognitive load, that sort of thing. And cut down on the jokes.
